The Dutch Water Spaniel is a medium-sized hound produced in the Netherlands. It is good at working in the water, hence its name. Sincere to the owner and resolute towards strangers, it can be kept as a good watchdog.
1. Appearance
The body structure is compact, strong and square. The skin is not loose, and there is no fat or wrinkles on the throat. The head is relatively large, strong and powerful relative to the body. The muzzle is half the length of the head. The skull is slightly domed and broad. The ears are short, hanging, and spade-shaped. There are curved hairs on the ears. The roots of the ears are long and the ears become shorter towards the tips. Eyes are of average size, oval, not sunken or protruding. The nose is black or brown (common with dark coat). Neck short and healthy. The chest is broad and deep, which leads to greater separation between the forelegs. The body is powerful, with round ribs and a well-developed short back. The tail is long and curled over the back. The forelimbs are strong and relatively straight, while the hind limbs are strong and tortuous. The feet are round, with well-developed invisible feet and thick pads. The coat is covered with thick curly hair except for the head and lower legs. Thick, oily curly hair. The short hair on the head is less oily. The coat color may be brown, black, or these two colors mixed with white.
2. Body shape
Height 53-58 cm; body weight 15-20 kg.
3. Nature
A dog that is gentle but has a stubborn personality, has some reservations about strangers. Excellent watchdog.
4. Habits
Strong ability to work in water, strong desire to catch, quick feeling, fine and oily waterproof coat, especially suitable for working in rough terrain or weather in the water .
The Dutch Water Spaniel is an excellent dog in terms of work and companionship.
