Al-Qaeda linked Somali group of Alshabaab has on Tuesday night attacked the town of Huddur in Bakol region where Somali transitional government forces backed by Ethiopian troops have bases.
” We knew they were attacking the town and our troops were well prepared” said Bakol region governor, Mohamed Abdi Tall, adding that TFG and Ethiopian troops killed at least 17 Al-Shabab militants and capturing three more.
Reports from the town say two civilians killed by stray bullets in their houses were among Tuesday night’s fighting in Huddur town.
Alshabab has recently intensified its attacks on TFG and Ethiopian troop installations in Bay and Bakol regions where the group has enjoyed mass support from the locals before they were driven by TFG forces backed by Ethiopian troops.
Huddur is lacated close to the Ethiopian border and is considered to be a strategic town according to its geographical location.
