At least eight people died and and unknown number of others were wounded after a mine explosion took place at a busy market in the town of Baidoa some 245 kilometers from the Somali capital, Mogadisho.
The dead and wounded were all but one civilians and seven of those killed in the explosion were women,who were at a market near the main abattoir of Baidoa town.
Reports from Baidoa town say government soldiers arrested a man thought to be behind the attack targeted on a government soldier.
The man, the government troops arrested is said to belong to Alshabab, the Somali radical group, who have recently joined ranks with Al-Qaeda.
Monday’s attack comes at a time the Somali parliament speaker is in town, and holding talks aimed at tightening security of the areas captured from the militants.
Baidoa has years been a stronghold of Alshabab and its fall to the government and Ethiopian troops leaves the militant group of Alshabab desperate in southwest Somalia.
